A recent college graduate, Jordan Hansen studied art at the University of California San Diego before transferring to New Mexico State University. The recurrent theme in her art is anticipation. There is an attitude of curiosity, of wonder, of asking what's around the bend, depicted in each of her works.
Jordan's extended family is close knit and multi-ethnic. Her idea of one human community is expressed in the range of realistic skin tones she is able to create. She blends soft pastels with her fingers to achieve a sense of living energy in her subjects. Her intention is to nearly sculpt her drawings with bare hands.
Jordan has been strongly influenced by the art of fashion photography, especially enjoying the work of Francesco Scavullo and the late celebrated make-up artist, Kevin Aucoin.
As an emerging artist, Jordan is currently working primarily in soft pastels and water media. She plans to incorporate other media in her work as she moves forward.
Jordan is a member of the El Paso Art Association and the Pastel Society of El Paso. She is also an associate member of the Allied Artists of America.
Her work can be seen and acquired at the Sunland Art Gallery located inside the Sunland Park Mall in El Paso, TX and Galerie Kartis in Las Cruces, NM (505) 521-3904.
